Name: Exhibit at PNW Quilt & Fiber Arts Museum: Ervena Yu Art
Date: November 3, 2021 - November 28, 2021
Event Description:
Ervena’s love for arts and fashion began at the elite Bunka Dressmaking School in Taiwan.  Later, Ervena received her BA from Utah State University, then her MA in Fashion Design from the University of Washington in 1975, which included a quarter abroad at the University of London.  She owned a successful boutique and then a manufacturing line of Ultrasuede and authored 4 books of “Stylish Serging”.  She conducted workshops and training seminars across the US and Canada for 5 years and taught at the college level for 10 years.  After retiring, she traveled world-wide with her husband for his work and their pleasure.  Once back home, she took her hundreds of photos from their adventures and started to create needle crafts to keep these memories alive in art form.

Ervena’s love of creations with textiles extended from couture fashion to now:  these original unique works of art.  This art comes to life with her use of texture and skillful craftsmanship; reflecting her expertise and passion for nature’s beauty.  Each piece began with the same 3 materials; blank silk fabric, a muted background and permanent fabric paint – all painted by Ervena freehand.  From there, she artfully created each piece using a combination of silky threads, ribbons, yarns and embroidery to bring it to completion.  Ervena has expanded her collection from scenery to include alphabet letters, symbols, logos and Chinese characters.

Ervena lives in Bellingham, WA.  She enjoys traveling, gardening and being with her family.  When she lost her husband of 64 years in 2020, she used this hobby and channeled her creativity to help her grieve.
