Old Fashioned 4th of July in La Conner
Fireworks will light up the sky and music will fill the air as the Town of La Conner and the Port of Skagit combine forces to celebrate the Fourth of July 2018 the old-fashioned way.
Highlights of the day will be a free outdoor concert at the La Conner Marina, 359 North 3rd St. followed after dark by a fireworks display over the Swinomish Channel. The concert features Pacific Northwest Legends Jr Cadillac and local classic rock favorites The Walrus.
A children's parade, hot dogs, three-legged races, and a watermelon eating contest start the day’s festivities. Browse the town’s eclectic array of specialty shops, museums and galleries during the day. Enjoy the outstanding local cuisine offered by its fine dining restaurants and sample the local brewery and wineries.
The parade starts at 12 noon, with a community picnic and children's events following at Pioneer Park, 1200 South 4th St. The evening entertainment at the marina is from 5 to 9:00 p.m., followed by the fireworks show. There will be local food vendors and a beer/wine garden provided by Anacortes Brewery at the concert opening at 5 p.m.
The concert is a fundraiser for the Rick Epting Foundation for the Arts Fund for local underserved music students. Proceeds from the beer garden and a raffle featuring donations from local artists, photographers and business's will go to the La Conner School District for music lessons for students who can afford music lessons and equipment rental.
This year's fireworks display is being presented by Western Display Fireworks. Western Display Fireworks is a fourth generation family owned business offering the finest in pyrotechnic productions. This company produces the annual New Year's Eve display at Seattle's Space Needle.
